Day 1: Maun – Nxai Pan

Arriving in Maun and you will be road transferred to your camp in Nxai Pan National Park. You will arrive in time for lunch and a short rest before the afternoon game drive. Nxai Pan is a cousin of the legendary Makgadikgadi Pans set in the Kalahari and sightings here differ between the dry season and the wet season, with the wet season attracting great herds, whilst during the dry season, the animals target the few permanent waterholes.

Day 2: Nxai Pan

An early morning wake-up signals a day of excitement and spectacular game sightings as you explore the Nxai Pan National Park. During the wet season the drives will concentrate on the grass plains where herds of animals gather with their young, which in turn attract predators. The dry season means the drives seek out the permanent waterholes where the resident animals congregate under the watchful eyes of the ever-present predators. Whatever the season drives to the famous Baines’ Baobabs are an option, and with nightfall some of the best stargazing in Africa can be had.

Day 3: Nxai Pan – Central Kalahari

There will be time for a drive in the early morning before returning to the bush camp for brunch and the transfer to the Central Kalahari where you will spend the next 2 nights. You will be staying in the game reserve itself and activities involve game drives in the area and drives to Deception Valley.

Day 4: Central Kalahari Kalahari

An early wake-up call and light breakfast precedes the day’s activities of exploring the Central Kalahari Game Reserve with the help of a Bushman tracker who will share his intimate knowledge on game drives and nature walks. The Bushmen are the original inhabitants of the Kalahari and as such know the area better than anybody.

Picnics on a pan surrounded by the wide vistas are a highlight of a Kalahari safari, and at night there is no more dramatic place to view the stars of the southern skies than in the desert. Falling asleep to the sounds in the Kalahari is an experienced to be savored.

Day 5: Central Kalahari – Maun

This is the last day of your Classic Kalahari Explorer Package. There will be ample time for a final morning activity and breakfast. You will be transferred to Maun, where you catch the onward connection to International Airport.

The Kalahari Desert is vast interior plateau, covering a large portion of southern Africa, encompassing almost all of Botswana, approximately one third of neighbouring Namibia and a large portion of the Northern Cape province of South Africa to the south. Receiving less than 250 mm of rainfall per year, the Kalahari region is a desert, characterised by a landscape of gently undulating topography at approximately 900 metres above sea level.
